Frequently asked questions

What bike should I use

Well, that would depend on which option you go for. For 'The Mucker' we would suggest a gravel bike but any off road bike will do. If you are going for 'The Mackie' a road bike will be the beast for the job.

Is this a race?

No, it isn't a race. However, we do have some timed sections which you can choose to ride as fast or slow as you please. Between these stages is completely untimed giving you the chance to kick back and enjoy what's going on around you.

How will I know when the stages start and finish?

We will have both Marshals and signage in place giving you ample warning.

Will the gravel and road routes meet in places?

Yes, there will be sections that the routes run together but for the most-part they are separate.

I'm a bit daunted by the distance, can I use an E-bike?

Yes, we completely understand that accidents, injuries and ageing happens - this is life. One thing we really are trying to promote here is inclusion, so if that means you riding an E-bike, then ride your E-bike.

Will there be charging points for E-batteries?

Yes, there will be spaces at Tibbie Shiels Festival village to charge your batteries.

Do I need to be super fit to ride?

Well, we're going to be honest - whether you choose the gravel or the road option it's going to be tough. However, the cut off times are reasonably relaxed.

I really want to ride but my partner and kids don't. How can this work?

When purchasing a full weekend riding ticket there will be an option of additional extra tickets bellow. You can add in a partner (non-riding) ticket ticket for 50% off, plus children u14 are free entrance to the festival village.

Will there be much for them to do in the village?

Yes, we have an array of live music on through the day and into the night, pump track with kids coach giving introductory riding lessons, watersports, walking routes and many other family friendly activities.

Is it extra for camping?

No, this is included in the ticket but please when booking state how many will be staying in each tent.

Can I sleep in my campervan?

Yes, although there are very limited spaces available and we really are trying to encourage people to take the bus to minimse our traffic impact on the area.

Will it be loud with music on late?

Live music stops at 11:00 but we do have a quiet camp ground on offer a little further away from the music if you want to get away to bed early.

Camping really isn't my cup of tea? Are there any rooms available?

Yes, again in the ticket option there is an optional additional add-on of booking an en-suite hotel room at the festival village. There are not many rooms on offer and each will advertise the number of beds available (booking to be made on full room, not per head).

Is there vegetarian and vegan food options?

Yes, there will be a mix of healthy and not quite so healthy food options on offer (all bloody tasty nonetheless)

Will there be activities on through the day on Sunday too?

Yes, there are activities on both Saturday and Sunday at the event village for those not wanting to ride. (See event schedule)

I'm doing the Mono option, how do I get my bike to St.Marys Loch, or back from it?

Included in your ticket fee is a bike shuttle service to get your bike either from St.mary's loch - Galashiels if you're riding day one, or, from Galashiels - St.mary's loch if you're riding day 2.
